Make Your Own DIY Cleaners

Category Cleaning

Who doesn't want to get more out of their day while spending less? Since homemade cleansers are capable of performing both of these functions, we make sure to include them in our cleaning supplies. These do-it-yourself cleaning recipes were developed to get the job done fast and effectively, whether it be a straightforward everyday routine or a more specialized cleaning job. They achieve this without losing the efficacy that you would expect from their equivalents found in stores.

1) Fridge

Who doesn't want to know which product is the most effective for cleaning their refrigerator? We definitely do! Here is a recipe for you to follow:

  • 1 standard cup of boiling water
  • 1/4 of a cup of white vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of liquid dish soap
  • 20 drops of lemon essential oil (optional)

Put this mixture into a spray bottle, and then apply it to the inside of your refrigerator. Then all you need to do is wipe down your refrigerator, and you're ready to go! The essential oil of lemon will not only assist you in removing any of the dirty build-up that may have occurred in your refrigerator, but it will also give it a lovely lemony zing and make it seem much more energizing.

2) Laminate Floors

After being cleaned, laminate flooring often seem to have streaks and a hazy appearance; this shouldn't be the case at all! They've literally just been sanitized! To eliminate streaks from your laminate flooring once and for all, create this miraculous cleaner, store it in a spray bottle, and use it with a microfiber mop that has a flat head.

  • 1/2 a cup of water
  • 1/4 cup of white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup of rubbing alcohol
  • 10 drops of the essential oil that you choose to use (optional).

3) Hardwood Floors

This is a versatile remedy that may be used either in a spray bottle and sprayed with a flat-head mop or with a microfiber head wring mop. It does not need rinsing and can be used in any of these ways.  If you use a little amount of soap, it will help to gently remove dirt without leaving any residue behind (which would make your flooring sticky to walk on). The vinegar assists in removing oil and grime from the floor, so bringing out its inherent shine.

  • 1/2 teaspoon of liquid dish soap
  • 1/4 cup of white vinegar
  • 2 cups of water

After giving this solution a good shake in a spray bottle, apply it to a part of the floor, and then mop it up with a flat-head mop. If you are going to use this solution in a bucket, you need to increase the amount of water by a factor of four and the amount of soap and vinegar by a factor of two. To minimize the development of streaks, you should always remember to squeeze as much water out of your mop as possible and to clean in the direction of the wood grain.

4) Cleaner for Everyday Use on the Counters

When you're on the run, it's a breeze to clean if you have a little bottle of something that can wipe up everyday messes like crumbs and spills on the kitchen and bathroom counters. When you need to do a fast clean in between more thorough washings, always have a bottle of this and a clean microfiber cloth available. It is a wonderful idea to make it a daily practice to wipe down the countertops in order to maintain them pristine since cleanliness breeds cleanliness.

  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 tsp of liquid dish soap
  • 20 drops of the essential oil that you want (tea tree oil is an excellent natural disinfectant!)

Put all of the ingredients into a clean spray bottle, then give it a good shake to combine them. Spray the surfaces thoroughly with the solution, and then let it set (swell time!) for a few minutes, or for longer if the spill is really large. After that, a cloth made of microfiber should be used to clean the surface.

5) Shoe cleaner with a white sole

Your white-soled sneakers should be cleaned regularly to ensure that they continue to have that "just-out-of-the-box" appearance. Baking soda and laundry detergent should be mixed in proportions that are equal to one another for the best results. On average, for a single pair of shoes, use 2 tablespoons of each ingredient. Combine these two ingredients, then use a toothbrush designed for cleaning to apply the mixture to the white soles. Scrub thoroughly, and then remove the solution with a microfiber towel that has been dampened. Whoosh! The White!

6) Spray for Every Day of the Week

One of the most effective strategies to prevent having to clean your shower is to remove soap scum from the surface before it has a chance to build.

  • 1 litre of white vinegar
  • 1/2 a cup of water
  • 20 drops of tea tree essential oil

Place all of the above ingredients into a bottle of spray and keep it in the shower with you. After you have finished showering, just spritz this over the walls of the shower, the door, and the interior of the tub to prevent soap scum and mildew from forming. After you have finished showering, make a point to turn on the extractor fan (if you have one) in the ceiling for at least half an hour so that the room can properly air out. You can also keep a window and the bathroom door open to let air flow. Mold and mildew may be prevented from growing by drying out the air as much as possible.

With most of these ingredients already in your house, why not try them and see how they work?
